The world is totally besotted with Jennifer Lawrence, and for good reason. Of course. “The only thing I can do well is shoot a bow and arrow – which I learned to do for The Hunger Games and will probably never come in handy – and act,” Lawrence told W Magazine. “Imagine me 100 years ago: I would have been pointless.” Now that has to be the understatement of the year so far. Lawrence isn’t just someone who can act; she’s widely regarded as the latest big Hollywood discovery. With producers fawning over the flaxen-haired beauty and designers clambering to dress her, the young luminary continues to take it all in her stride, and with a splash of humor to keep things real. “Not to sound rude, but [acting] is stupid,” she said to Vanity Fair. “Everybody asks, ‘How can you remain with a level head?’ And I’m like, ‘Why would I ever get cocky? I’m not saving anybody’s life.’”
If she was going to get cocky, now would be the time. Lawrence – or J-Law, as she’s been nicknamed – has come a long way fast. Raised in suburban Louisville, Kentucky, Lawrence describes her childhood to ContactMusic.com as “happy, but also scary, sweaty, and loud.” At 14, whilst vacationing with her family in New York, she was discovered by a top talent scout. Although she did then take on a few small commercial roles, her parents insisted she focus on her studies before pursuing acting. Lawrence raced through her high school syllabus, finishing school two years ahead of her peers with a GPA of 3.9, so she could concentrate fully on acting.
